A NYC Spectacular

It’s that time of the year again. The time when pumpkins and all fall decorations have been pushed to the side as everyone is now focused on one thing: the holiday season. Practically overnight, the neighborhoods twinkle with festive lights, the windows on Fifth Avenue sparkle, and Christmas trees are seen popping up all over the city. That magical feeling echoes throughout the streets, so it’s no wonder that New York City is a coveted place to be during this time. Book your travel now for the beauty alone, but while you’re there, don’t miss out on a few of the hidden holiday gems the city provides!

1.       Go shopping in the Union Square Christmas market

No better place to get ahead on your holiday shopping than at the Union Square Christmas Market. Lined with stalls of local, hand-crafted goods, this pop up market holds any unique gift you’re looking for. Looking for a gift for mom? The take on classic household items runs endless. Looking for that one friend that is obsessed with his pet? Get him a pair of socks with his dog’s face on it. Regardless of the need, you can likely find it wandering the aisles of this Christmas market.

2.       Go ice skating at Bryant Park

A little more uptown, the Christmas spirit turns up a notch. Take in the sounds of Christmas music as you skate around the rink in Bryant Park, and afterwards make sure to grab a bite to eat at one of the pop up food stalls. Warm up with crafted soup from Brodo Broth Shop, or a plate of pierogis from Veselka’s Borscht Bar.

3.       Have a drink at Rolf’s

Sit underneath the twinkly lights of Rolf’s, a German restaurant that doubles as the highest electric bill in NYC. Located in the heart of Gramercy, this tavern is known for their extravagant Christmas decorations, mulled wine and, of course, the classic German schnitzel.

4.       Spend the night admiring the Christmas lights in Dyker Heights

Didn’t get enough sensory overload at Rolf’s? Just out of Manhattan and in the borough of Brooklyn lives Dyker Heights, a neighborhood filled with more holiday festivity than your local department store. Illuminated homes line each block, each one outshining the next with their extravagant light display. Venture out of the city and stroll down these streets to get the most out of your holiday experience!
